Julian Evan-Hart

Julian and Dave Hibbitt

I was born on 9th October 1962 in Welwyn Garden City, I lived at Ayot St Lawrence for several years and then moved to Weston also in Herts. From a young age I have always been interested in fossils and antiquities, when aged six I found a mammoth tooth lying by some recent road-works and that was it the passion took off. I was educated at St Georges School in Harpenden. Later interests involved aviation archaeology and wildlife. I have been involved in some 200 aircraft excavations and crash site searches then in the early 1980s the logical move to metal detecting took place, I simply love the honour of being able to handle antiquities and coins from bygone ages.

In 2003 I co-authored "The Beginners Guide to Metal Detecting" and write regular metal detecting articles for Treasure Hunting Magazine and several overseas historical magazines in the USA. In June 2006 I wrote the Hertfordshire volume for the "War Torn Skies" series about aviation incidents in that county and also translated a French book for the English market on The Amiens Raid both are due to be published in June 2007. Further to these I am working on another possible four independent subject works. I currently complete voluntary field tests of detectors and accessories for Minelab detectors one of the world leading manufacturers. Also in June 2007 I helped organise the world's first ever proper archaeological excavation of a Zeppelin at Theberton in Suffolk.

Currently I am married to Tina with two children Bertie and Gus. Career-wise we opted that I would "House Husband" the two boys until they are school age which I am currently doing.
